Bedfordshire Police Visit

15 club members visited Kempston Police headquarters’ Emergency Call centre on Monday 23rd September; 999 and 101 calls for all of Bedfordshire are received and processed here.

An officer showed us around and explained the procedures they put in place depending on the nature of the call.

The call centre room is split into three areas. Bedfordshire North, Bedfordshire South and Luton and is of course manned 24 hours 7 days a week, with weekends and Christmas being the busiest.

A lot of irrelevant calls are also handled that waste police time and resources, such as a complaints that Pizzas or chips were cold to cars that wont start . Although they may seem funny, they are not taken lightly. If the caller can be traced then a prosecution will most likely ensue.

After the tour we made our way to the King William 1V pub for a very nice meal and liquid refreshment.

The club thank Janet Stringer for arranging this very interesting tour.
